Now, a bag of millet goes for N14, 000 as against N18, 000 while a bag of paddy rice went for N8, 500 as against its previous price of N11, 000.<br/> <br/> Maize and sorghum were sold at N11, 000 and N13, 000 down from their old prices of N15, 000 and N17, 000, respectively.<br/> PM News quotes NAN as saying that its investigation showed that the crash was necessitated by the harvesting of food crops and the corresponding increase in the supply of food items in the market.<br/> It also also reports that farmers recorded high yields due to appreciable rainfall and good weather condition recorded this cropping season.<br/> <br/> Traders, who spoke with NAN at the market, attributed the drop in prices of food items in the state to increase the supply of fresh produce from the farms while a grain dealer, Alhaji Kassim Adamu expressed confidence that prices would further go down because of the harvest by farmers.<br/> <br/> “The supply keeps moving up and it will push prices further down,” he said.<br/> Meanwhile, Nigeria in talks with the Chinese import-export bank China Exim Bank for a $21 billion loan to finance its 2016 budget and develop new infrastructure projects to boost the ailing economy.<br/> <br/> This was announced by the minister of budget and national planning, Senator Udoma Udo Udoma following his visit to China in July and President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit to China in April.</div>

"We don't know the full range, but 500 km is either full range or a full range on a lofted trajectory. However, on Sunday night, scientists were able to reestablish contact, after 22 months of searching, when the Deep Space Network (NASA’s tool for tracking space missions) was able to lock on to the signal.<br/> <br/> In October 2006, STEREO-B and its partner STEREO-A embarked on a two-year-long mission to provide measurements of the sun’s flow of energy to Earth. One of the spacecraft was about to drift to the opposite side of the sun from Earth, so there was going to be a three-month period during which communication would be impossible. Since the spacecraft were only designed to be in space for two years, this development was overlooked at the time of the launch.<br/> <br/> “The sun emits strongly in nearly every wavelength, making it the biggest source of noise in the sky,” said Dan Ossing, mission operations manager for the STEREO mission.“Most deep space missions only have to deal with sun interference for a day or so, but for each of the STEREO spacecraft, this period lasted nearly four months.”<br/> <br/> Because the spacecraft was designed to reset after 72 hours without contact, the team decided to test it to make sure it could reestablish a signal with Earth durimg this reset period. The scientists figured it would turn itself back on.<br/> <br/> The team received a weak signal after the first reset, and that was the last time they heard from STEREO-B. Until this week, when the Deep Space Network established a link with STEREO-B’s signal.<br/> <br/> In a report from December 2015, scientists hypothesized that the tests went awry because the sensor that tells the spacecraft how fast it’s rotating failed, sending it spinning out of control. Meanwhile, the spacecraft’s battery was powered by solar panels, which weren’t able to get energy to power it up.<br/> <br/> Since communications were lost, scientists have been using the network to check for STEREO-B, spacing out three three-hour blocks each week to search for it. This was a tough task, considering scientists had no idea where the spacecraft was.<br/> <br/> But the newly located STEREO-B isn’t out of danger just yet. The STEREO team will plan further recovery processes to ensure that the spacecraft is working properly. The team has already spent several hours testing its vitals before powering it down to save battery.<br/> <br/> It’s a process that might take years. In 2019, the team will be able to use Hubble to see it and test its rate of spin.<br/> <br/> So I guess STEREO-B got its happily ever after, at least for now. It’s still sad to think about it floating in space, spinning out of control, hoping its friends back on Earth will find it. Although that could just be us (definitely us).</div>

While this may be true to some extent, the move by the Nigerian military may be another factor. This is because heavy military presence was deployed to Bayelsa with the intention to repel any move that might be considered treasonable. While it may easy to blow up a pipeline in the dead of the night considering that most of these region had long networks of pipelines, it will be difficult to declare an independent republic as this will require physical presence and a need to carry-out administrative duties.<br/> President Buhari might be struggling to deal with vandalism of oil and gas pipelines but a declaration of an independent state would pit the secessionists against the army and the president would not hesitate to exercise the superior weaponry in quelling what may be considered an insult. As he has reiterated, the unity of Nigeria is non-negotiable .<br/> <br/> 2. Financial amnesty<br/> <br/> Granting MEND amnesty during the administration of the late president, Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and facilitated by then vice president, Jonathan has been a solution that can best be described as a future disaster. While this was a way to stop the incessant attack on oil workers and bombing of pipelines, it created a bigger financial problem that President Buhari is likely not to repeat.<br/> <br/> The president has insisted that he is ready to explore various ways of ending the problem in the Niger Delta but the militants waiting for financial amnesty should think twice as Buhari may not thread this path of wasting fund on jobless youths as this continues to put the country at their mercy.<br/> 3. Resource control<br/> <br/> Niger Delta militants have called for a restructuring of the control of oil as the current 13 per cent the region was receiving from the federal government was not acceptable. Some militant groups have demanded that that since oil is generated from the region, it should also control it the same way other regions control their agriculture and other resources.<br/> <br/> While this is an issue that calls for debate, it is clear that it will take a long time before this will even be considered by President Muhammadu Buhari. First, oil being the main source of Nigeria’s export cannot be quickly and easily relinquished to the region as this will create a vacuum in Nigeria’s financial terrain.<br/> Professor Yemi Osinbajo, the vice president has reiterated that if corruption remains in Nigeria’s system, the same problems will still persists even if each region controls it natural resource. Perhaps if oil is discovered in the north, each region will be allowed to control it. Until then, militants should not expect Buhari to relinquish federal government’s control of oil to the Niger Delta.<br/> <br/> 4. Headquarters of oil companies<br/> <br/> Oyobio-Oyobio, a militants group recently gave a seven-day ultimatum to oil companies to move their headquaters to the Niger Delta region. They made this demand because they felt the people from the region have a lot to benefit if executive workers of oil companies operate from the Niger Delta.<br/> <br/> First, the decision to set-up or operate a company from a particular operation is not within President Buhari’s terrain. Secondly, if he wants these companies to move from Lagos and Abuja to the Niger Delta region, there must security guarantee but unfortunately, the region has had a history of kidnapping for ransom. The targeted areas include but not limited to police stations, prison facilities, schools and market places. This did not include the transportation of the product or several levies and bank interests paid by marketers.<br/> “Consequently, marketers will now add all these expenses to the depot price to arrive at N190, N200 or N220 depending on their locations. The advantage of this is that it will open door for more marketers to commence importation of kerosene just like petrol,’’ he said.</div>
